Have you ever had a coworker with whom you were in an
unspoken competition? It's strange how it all begins isn't it? You start off amicably enough, but somehow, over time, things changed.
Maybe it was the time your team chose that person over you to lead the last project. Or maybe it was that he sold the idea you were actually going to talk to your boss about that same day!
(You know your coworker didn't steal your idea because you hadn't even told anyone about the idea you had. )
If you're always thinking to yourself, "How does this person always get a one-up on you without even trying?"
The answer is that you are probably paying way too much attention to what your coworker is doing, and not enough on yourself. And the only way to get out of this competition, is to stop focusing on what your coworker is doing. It's a simple as that.
Overall, there isnt anything wrong with healthy competition, because it gives you something to work toward and all parties benefit in the area of personal development. But when the competition is a borderline obsession, you gotta watch out!
Don't let your competition turn into envy and jealousy.
